Variety NSW/ACT provides assistance towards the purchase of essential medical and health equipment to assist children that have a medically diagnosed chronic illness or disability.

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • Applicants must live in NSW or ACT
  • Applications can only be accepted for children aged 0 to 18 years
  • Applicants must be medically diagnosed with a chronic illness or disability
  • Previous recipients will not be considered for another a Medical Equipment Grant until 12 months after the date listed on their outcome letter
  • Unsuccessful applicants may be eligible to reapply for a Medical Equipment rant 12 months after the date listed on their outcome letter

Medical Equipment Requests

  • Auditory – hearing aids, cochlea implants etc
  • Bedroom Items – electric or specialized beds, mattresses
  • Cough Assist Machine
  • CPAP Machine
  • Electric Stimulation Systems – medical devices that stimulate nerves and muscles
  • Epilepsy Monitor
  • Helmets - cranial helmets used for shaping skulls
  • Helmets – safety helmets for seizures
  • Insulin Pump and Continuous Glucose Monitoring System
  • Nebulizer or Humidifier
  • Orthotics - Dynamic Movement Orthoses, second skin, dynamic splits or compression stockings
  • Oxygen Pumps
  • Prosthetics
  • Sensory Equipment – Items promoting the stimulation of the senses (sight, touch, smell and emotion)
  • Seizure Alarms and Mats
  • Suction Pumps
  • Vaporizer
  • Ventilators
  • Vision Care – corrective equipment

Documentation Required 

Variety NSW/ACT recommends consulting with your NDIS planner, GP. Specialist or Social/Support Worker before starting an application so they can best support you through the process.

Some documentation will be required for your application depending on your situation, these may include support letters, diagnosis letters & proof of income. Please check the guidelines.
