Variety NSW/ACT provides assistance towards the purchase of mobility equipment to assist children that need support to do everyday things due to a diagnosed chronic illness and or disability.

Variety NSW/ACT Mobility Equipment Grant Guidelines

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Applicants must live in NSW or ACT.
  • Applications much be diagnosed with a chronic illness or a disability.
  • Applications can only be accepted for children aged 0 to 18 years (at date of submission, including 18).
  • Previous recipients of a Mobility Equipment Grant may be eligible to apply in 12 months.
  • Unsuccessful applicants may be eligible to reapply again 12 months after the date on outcome letter.

Mobility Grant Requests

• Bike – including modified bikes, trikes and scooters
• Car Seats – including position systems
• Dog – Assistance or companion dog
• Gait trainer
• Helmets – including safety helmets for bikes and seizures
• Hoists/Lifts – including electric and manual hoists, slings etc
• In home mobility therapeutic items – including trampolines etc
• Positioning Systems – including hi-lo chairs, side layers etc
• Ramps – Access ramps for car, homes or buildings (non-capital works)
• Shower Chairs
• Standers – standing frames and standing assistive equipment
• Strollers – Strictly for children aged 5 years and younger only
• Toilet Chairs
• Wheelchairs – Powered/Electric
• Wheelchairs – Manual
• Wheelchair - Sports
• Walk Assistance items – including postural splints, theratogs,
• Walkers – including frames and walkers

Documentation Required

Variety NSW/ACT recommends consulting with your NDIS planner, GP, Specialist or Social/Support Worker before starting an application so they can best support you through the process.

Some documentation will be required for your application depending on your situation, these may include support letters, diagnosis letters & proof of income. Please check the guidelines.
